Milling Day

In the 1700’s hunters and explorers found a place with excellent springs near a beautiful waterfall. There are 13 springs flowing from the hillside. In 1817 settlers in the area erected a cereal grinding mill. Families would bring in their corn and wheat by wagon or horseback to be ground on milling day. There is a lot more history behind Mill Springs including the Battle of Mill Springs as it was called, which was one of the first big battles of the Civil War.  http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/history/mill_springs_park.htm
